LESSON 5, WEEK 10 –Review of Lessons 1-4

Scripture for the week:

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 11 For by me your days will be multiplied and Years of life will be added to you. Proverbs 9:10-11 NKJV

*Before you begin, ask God to reveal His truth to you as you study His Word.

Think On These Things:

Verse 10 states that loving and revering the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Being filled with the Holy Spirit gives us understanding on a spiritual realm. Wow!  When you come to the Lord and surrender your all to Him, that’s when you have become wise. From there it only gets better and better for you are given the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth.
Then verse 11 goes on to say that our days will be multiplied and years will be added to our lives by walking with the Lord.

How true this is. The newspapers and TV are full of accounts of lives being shortened by unwise decisions. Wisdom is God and we need to be walking with Him.

Review of Lessons 1 -2

Being wise comes from being in the Word and spending time in prayer.
When we spend time with God, we come to recognize His voice and won’t miss it. We’ll be use to hearing Him.

Also, any decisions we make must line-up with God’s Word.

Then, we must look at the circumstances in our life. What direction are they leading us? If we’re walking with the Lord, then we won’t have a problem seeing and understanding what they are saying to us.

We saw this with the disciple Peter in Acts 10. He was a Jew by birth, but began following Jesus. When He had the vision of the unclean animals being lowered in the sheet, he understood God was telling him that they were no longer unclean. Later when he was summoned by Cornelius’s men, he went without hesitation.

Review of Lessons 3-4

Even though Peter knew that Jews and Gentiles had never associated together, he went with Cornelius’s men to Caesarea. When he gets there, he tells them that he came without hesitation, even though he didn’t know exactly what they wanted. He did so because he had an inner-peace. Peter was walking with the Lord and he felt the circumstances leading him to obey God’s leading.

So based on everything we have been learning from Acts 10 and from other places in Scriptures good decisions are dependent on:

1.      Our decisions must be in agreement with God’s Word.
2.      We must look at circumstances and see which way they are leading us.
3.      We will have an inner-peace after making a decision.

Sometimes we think we’ve surrendered all and trip over our humanness. In other words, we’re so in love with what we want, holding tight to it, that we interpret (or don’t listen) to the commands and signs correctly.

What to do? What to do? It is at these times, we need to get back on our knees and confess our sin. Tell the Lord we got it wrong. He is faithful and just and He will help us get back on track. “If you wander off the road to the right or the left, you will hear his voice behind you saying, ‘hear his voice behind you saying, ‘Here is the road. Follow it.’” (Isaiah 30:20-21 GNT)  Hang onto that promise.

Grandparents, share times when you made the right decisions following the Lord, and also share the times when you tripped up, listening to your own wants. Teachable moments are when we share how things worked out in our lives.

Father God, we want to share with our grandchildren. Help us to be open and vulnerable. May there be an abundance of teachable moments in our grandchildren’s lives because we dare to be open and share. In Jesus Name. Amen.

NOTE: I won't be able to post for the next couple of week, but I'll be back mid-March. I hope you are being blessed through this Bible study for Grandparents. I would love to have some feed back. Just leave it on the blog or message me on Facebook. Thanks, Janet
